About Liz Burville
Liz Burville trained at the Bird College and was a Choreographer, Teacher and Examiner. Liz worked extensively in Musical Theatre and Dance, her performance credits included Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, Hello Dolly, Worzel Gummidge, Josephine, as well as performing on the QE2, with the Tiller Girls and in many Christmas Pantomimes including the Orchard Theatre, the Opera House Belfast, the Gordon Craig Theatre Stevenage and the Marlowe Theatre Canterbury playing the Good Fairy. As a choreographer, Liz has worked on TV Commercials, TV dramas, Summer Shows, Touring Musicals, Pantomimes and Youth Productions.
She was an International Examiner for Trinity Guildhall and has visited Hong Kong, Singapore, Malta, Italy and Switzerland examining and lecturing in Drama and Musical Theatre. Liz was also an ISTD Modern and Tap Examiner for 15 years. Liz started her Studio in Bexley 30 years ago, it began as The Liz Burville Dance Centre and is now Liz Burville Performing Arts Limited and specializes in teaching all forms of Dance as well as Drama, Singing, Musical Theatre and other associated Performing Arts subjects.
Thousands of students have been trained by Liz Burville and many have successful performing and dance teaching careers of their own – Charlie Stemp (Half a sixpence, Mary Poppins), Spencer O’Brien (Shrek the Musical), Rachel Grundy (Rocky Horror Show), Amy Field (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Sam Archer (Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake), Ross Sands (Robbie Williams Concert Tour), Paul Saunders (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Lara Pulver (Sherlock TV Series 2 and forthcoming 3) to name but a handful!
Liz set up In The Wings Productions in 1997 with a touring Christmas Pantomime in North West Kent and South East London every year until 2009. Following that, the Company produced many original Musical Productions in professional venues including Billy Elliot 2011, Oliver 2012, Bugsy Malone 2013, Grease 2014, Hairspray 2015, Fame 2016 and Legally Blonde 2017.
As a training provider for Dartford Youth Theatre, In The Wings worked with young people and established an annual Youth Talent Charity Spectacular which was presented at The Orchard for three consecutive years and raised over £20,000 for Children in Need.
Liz was married to TV Lighting Director Stuart Gain and had two children Emilie and Robert.
In 2014, Liz was diagnosed with cancer. After a four year fight, she finally lost her battle with this terrible illness on 1st January 2018. Liz leaves behind her husband Stuart and two children, Emilie and Robert.
Liz’s legacy will continue throughout Liz Burville Performing Arts for many years to come.
